Commercial/Industrial Inspecting & Testing
ARE YOU! COMPLYING WITH THE ELECTRICITY AT WORK ACT? PROSECUTION FOR NON COMPLIANCE UNDER THE CORPORATE MANSLAUGHTER ACT WITH A SENTENCE UP TO 15 YEARS IN PRISON.
You being the owner, manager or director of the business under the Electricity at Work Act 1989', are responsible to insure that you're staff and customers are in a safe environment.
If your premises are not electrically inspected and tested at sufficient intervals then you are not complying with the Electricity at Work Act 1989', are at risk of a dangerous electrical fault occurring and prosecution under the Corporate Manslaughter Act. Also if the electrical installation is in poor condition would also have to be considered within your fire risk assessment as a high fire risk given the high probability that an electrical fault could occur.
To protect yourself of these charges in a court of law, you would need to provide evidence that a safe environment existed. To do this you would need to provide evidence that your premises had been maintained to a sufficient standard and had in place a continuous cyclical maintenance programme.
AbleToPower Electrical Services are here to help you comply with the Electricity at Work Act 1989', we are able to complete the testing and inspections necessary and then provide you with the certified documentation that proves your compliance to the Electricity at Work Act 1989' as well as the condition of the installation.
There are also many benefits from regular testing:
- Insures your compliance with the Electricity at Work Act 1989.
- Insures your not invalidating your Employers and Public Liability Insurances.
- The installation becomes a lower fire risk.
- Identifies weak spots in the installation.
- Allows preventative maintenance to be budgeted and completed conveniently.
- Almost eliminates costly breakdowns and power losses.
- Reliability of the installation is increased substantially.
We have included a table (fig.1) below taken from BS7671 that will allow you to easily identify the maximum period between inspections for typical premises; you can check the retest period of your installation by identifying the closest match to your premises in the left side column. Also if you have no previous testing certification you can identify whether the installation has been tested and it's next test due date by looking for a 'Periodic Inspection Sticker'(fig.2), this should have been attached to your distribution boards at the time of the last inspection.

Fig.2 This is a sample of a "Periodic Inspection" label, if you have had an inspection carried out in the past this should be seen in a prominent position at the supply origin.
AbleToPower Electrical services would be happy to discuss your exact testing needs and provide you with a competitive quotation that will meet your testing requirements. We are also currently including a FREE Thermographic Hotspot survey of your switchgear no matter what the size of installation completely free with every periodic inspection quotation saving you approximately 30%. Thermographic Hotspot surveys provide detailed pictures of thermal stresses of individual switchgear and bus bar chambers' as shown below (fig.3).
Fig. 3 This picture clearly identifies a significantly high temperature of one of the wiring conductors this could indicate a loose termination which will inevitably damage the conductor and worse cause a fire. This type of survey clearly identifies areas at risk and allows prompt action to rectify the problem before it becomes a more serious concern.
Our quotations are on a fixed price basis calculated on the number of circuits of the installation. We recognise that your day to day business productivity is the utmost importance, therefore to keep disruption to a minimum while completing the inspection we are very flexible and can complete inspections to sensitive equipment during lunch breaks etc or out of normal hours at no extra cost.
If you would like to discuss any future testing or are unsure whether your installation is in need of testing we can help you please contact our office at your convenience or text "CALL ME" to 07976 393085 and a sales representative will call you straight back.
